Intro
Groom Team Australia evolved from an expansion of the Australian Grooming Industry in 2008.Prior to 08 Australian groomers had started to travel overseas to explore the American grooming contests with great results.
History
Tamara James started with a success at Intergroom in 1998 followed by Annet Whitelum a regular at Pasadena since 2006. From there the floodgates opened with most serious aussie groomers now making an annual trip to the states to compete in some of the most professionally run contests in the world. With this knowledge filtering through the ranks the scope broadened to Europe where awareness of the European grooming contests came to light and the highly contested and prestigious World Team Championships came under notice. Organized by the EGA ( European Grooming Association )this contest involves teams from many countries and involves competing against some of the best groomers worldwide.
SummerGroom
In October 2010 the first SummerGroom contest was held at Castle Hill Showgrounds. This was the first contest to be held as a selection process for Groom Team Australia. International Judges Association (IJA) rules were used for the first time in Australia and the panel judging system was a great success ensuring consistent results across the board. A total of 6 judges were used with 4 of these being international judges.
The First Team 2009
As we all know Aussies are a competitive bunch of people and with a passion for grooming the first Groom Team Australia was born. On the 18th September 2009, five of Australia’s best groomers boarded planes and travelled to Dachau, Germany to compete in their first World Team Championships. This all girl team competed against 11 other countries and held their scissors extremely high with the team finishing just behind the placings .
The first Groom Team Australia touring team comprised Tamara James , Annet Whitelum , Christine Speerin (c) , Nicky Renwood and Sharon Hall (reserve ).
With the benchmark now firmly set we look forward to the following travelling teams raising the bar even higher.
